I came to the U.S. when I was eleven years old and did not speak any English. Even at that age, I quickly realized that I'd have to learn the language fast if I wanted to do well in this country. I hated not knowing what people were saying and wondering if they were talking about me, but mostly, I hated not being able to say what I needed to say. I can still hear in my head the first words I ever said out loud to a stranger: "Gimme the ball!". I yelled this out to a boy who was playing near me in the P.E. field of my elementary school. He had our ball and wouldn't give it back. I remember being nervous because I didn't want to say it wrong and I didn't want the other kids to make fun of me either. However, I remember being more upset than scared, because my friends and I couldn't continue playing and having fun. It was at that moment that I realized how important being able to communicate with others truly is.
I have been blessed with the ability to teach language in a simple and memorable way. I decided to create ESPANGLISH because I want to help people learn Spanish or English to connect with others whenever they need or want- whether it is to "ask for the ball", to "pass the ball", or to just "play ball".
