How am I qualified to teach? Great question!
I'm certified to teach K-12 Spanish and English (ESL/ESOL) by the Departments of Education of Virginia & Colorado. I've passed WyzAnt's qualifications tests for teaching both Spanish and English (ESL). I've taught English and Spanish for over 10 years now, working with over 1,300 students of diverse backgrounds, ages 2-70. I've studied Second Language Learning at the university graduate level and also daily when I prepare to teach vocabulary, grammar, and culture to my students. I know how the languages work! I was born in Cuba, raised in the U.S., and I've traveled to Spain, Latin America, and the Caribbean. I have also lived in many diverse areas of the U.S. like Miami, Denver, and Washington D.C. and have traveled to many places in the U.S. such as New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, which allowed me the opportunity to be exposed to English language and American culture. I'm very familiar with Hispanic and American traditions as well as Spanish and English language structure having had so much interaction with people from all of these places.
What's my teaching style? Another great question!
Fun, memorable, and creative! Otherwise, it doesn't work. People can't learn if you overwhelm them with tons of info, so you must pace things just right to help them feel capable and motivated. I incorporate games, music, competition, and real-life scenarios to get people to really learn the language. I can truly relate to my students because I came to the U.S. at age 11 and had to learn a new language myself- I've walked a mile in their shoes. I put myself in my students' place and ask myself, "Would I have liked this when I was learning language?". If the answer is no, then they probably won't like it either.
Learning a new language is easier than you think. Let me show you!
I'll help you quickly learn and feel confident in your skills so you can start using the language right away!
YOU CAN DOOOO ITTTTTT :D
